This is the ninth lesson in the iKNOW™ Electrical Safety Library. This lesson describes the lockout/tagout safety system used to ensure safety in the workplace and required by OSHA. Machinery must be properly shut off and de-energized during any service and maintenance. The need and use of locks, tags, alerting techniques, and attendants. The three roles and responsibilities for Authorized, Affected and Other employees are discussed and the lesson reinforces the requirements for being “qualified” for a particular task introduced in lesson 3, Electrical Shock.
